Nature Tapes - Lemon Demon's most vulgar EP
For a bit of context, Lemon Demon has always kept his lyrics to his songs "family friendly". Sure there is 'bitch' in Knife Fight, 'beef bastard' in Hyakugojyuuichi 2003, or the chorus of Consumer Whore, not to mention the countless miscellaneous songs he has made that does include swearing. But for most of the songs in his albums, he always keeps his lyrics family friendly for everyone to enjoy! Nature Tapes throws all that out the window and contains more profanities than all of his albums combined. And it only has 7 songs! (9 if you count the needlejuice remaster)
Because of that, it's always soo weird to listen to this EP compared to a lot of his albums
Song Highlights
- Two Trucks (6.5/10) - The song well known for its absurdity, you probably recognize this one. Two Trucks is about sexual intercourse between two automobiles, whilst also containing references to American culture: "No stars tonight just fireworks and eagles in the sky. The Founding Fathers cry"
Personally, I think it's overrated. Sure the instrumentals are fire, the chorus is hilarious. But I think the absurdity is a little too much. - A Mask of My Own Face (7/10) - Personally my favorite song in ths EP. A Mask of My Own Face is about a narcissist who prides himself with his mask and believes he can get anyway with anything using it: "I'd rob my own apartment and I wouldn't give a damn. I'd blame it on the person that nobody knows I am"
What I like most about this song is Neil's quiet and unhinged tone whilst he sings the lyrics, there is something soo scary with how he describes what he wants to do with his mask. It almost feels like ASMR in a way. I especially love the Pre-Chorus with him escalating his question "I look into my eyeholes, what do I see? (Look into my eyeholes, tell me what you see)" and it ultimately ending with: "A handsome motherfucker motherfucking looking back at me". I also like the second verse. The narrator thinks everyone around him is soo stupid that removing his mask in front of them will have them all remove their own faces, thinking they are masks - Everybody Loves Raymond (4/10) - Yeah this is easily the weakest song in the EP. This song just lists out the names of sitcomes with the chorus being about "Everybody Loves Raymond"
The only good thing I can say about this song is the chorus where Neil screams his heart out. Aside from it sounding hilarious on paper, this unironically gives me chills whenever I hear it. I only ever listen to this song whenever I plan to listen to Nature Tapes as a whole or if I want to hear Neil's screams again. Other than that, the song isn't that good
